The Dabney

The Dabney

Project Summary

Coinciding with a renovation to their space and the transition to an intentional, prix fixe menu, we took cues from the region’s history to reimagine this culinary gem through a number of guest-centric touchpoints.

With rich tones, tactile printing details and a layered, slotted menu system, the rebrand elevates the dining experience, while creating the sense that it had been there all along.

The Menu

A three-part, slotted dinner menu offers guests a layered experience with moments of surprise, much like the food served throughout an evening. It begins with a fine art print of an eighteenth century painting with a view of the Potomac, followed by the day's prix fixe offerings. The ochre-toned backer sheet reveals the restaurant's philosophy and story.

Mid-Atlantic Cuisine

The centerpiece of The Dabney's kitchen is a wood-burning hearth, giving a nod to the area’s historic food culture and showcasing the quality and diversity of the ingredients and the people who raise, grow and produce them.

The Bittercress

Paying homage to the original hand-drawn logo, we reinterpreted one of Chef Langhorne's favorite regional ingredients into a crisp, iconic moniker. It appears throughout the space pressed into cardstock, on enamel pins, and embroidered into uniforms. Above, the receipt holder features a diecut silhouette of the oversized leaf.

Menu Design

The drinks menu jacket features a blind debossed logo on dyed navy leather and interior sheets held by a golden band.
